From the

President’s Podium

- November 2006 -

THREE SPECIAL DIVISION 1 ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1.   I cannot express how important this announcement is.  At the November meeting there will be a proposal submitted by the “Meeting Place” Committee to the attending membership of an agreement to a place most favorable to this division and with a reasonable rate of rent.  It would go into effect as of January 1, 2007, if approved by the attending membership.  Therefore, your attendance is needed at the meeting.

2.   Cead Mile Failte' to our newest member, Thomas J. Finan.  Tom is a former member who had to resign in 1999, because he moved to Ireland.  Tom is an archeologist and “digs” Ireland, and has been on an archeology dig in Ireland.  After the close of the October meeting, he gave a slide show presentation of his work in Ireland.  I cannot thank Tom enough.  The presentation was extremely interesting.

St. Louis Area A.O.H. Color Guard:  The St. Louis Area A.O.H. Color Guard is in a constant search for new members to join their ranks.  Your complete uniform is furnished by the Color Guard team fund.  If you are interested, please contact Terry Madden at (314) 631-1630 or at his e-mail address: tmadden@teamsterslocal682.com

The team now under the leadership Of Terry Madden will be changing the style of uniforms after some 5 years to include kilts and a “Glengarry” and spats in order to look more “Irish”.  This does make for a real good looking uniform—Congratulations team!

Please Keep Ireland in your Prayers:  It seems that, out of the meetings in Scotland, an agreement for an equal power sharing government has been reached.  Is it possible, that what we have all dreamed of, prayed for and hoped for, for so long, may be actually on the road to a reality?  Even Ireland’s #1 “hate monger”, Ian Paisley, seems to be changing.  As of 10/18 it seems that Paisley has backed out of a planned meeting with Gerry Adams.  So please keep praying, and remember:  “Tiocfaidh  ar  La” / “Our day will come.”

Irish Language Classes:  Forest Park Community College is offering adult education Irish language classes. People of all ages are enrolled and a number of the students are AOH members. For more details, call Pat Sheehan at: 353-6802.
